Human Rights Organizer and DACA Eligible Father of U.S. Citizen Faces Deportation

Alexi Miguel Cruz Flores (A# 202-034-086) is a 24-year-old DACA eligible father of a 2-year-old U.S. Citizen daughter. He has been in the U.S. for more than 10 years and has been an active member of his community in the struggle for Human Rights.

Alexi was on his way back from dealing with a family emergency in Phoenix when his car broke down in Lordsburg, NM. He was racially profiled when questioned by Sheriff officials regarding his place of birth and was detained. Exercising his constitutional right not to answer this question, they responded by transferring him to Border Patrol.

In addition to going to school and volunteering with local social justice organizations in Phoenix, AZ like Puente AZ and Tonatierra and Esperanza Peace and Justice Center in San Antonio, TX, Alexi, along with his U.S. Citizen partner of five years and mother of their daughter, Anayanse, own a business publishing a magazine that focuses on issues regarding social justice, community resources, art and culture in the greater San Antonio area and beyond.

Alexi, with indigenous roots of Yaqui and Mayo, has a history of social justice activism and organizing, both in Phoenix and San Antonio, and is known as a responsible, caring member of the community, always willing to help those in need.

Alexi should be released immediately on his own recognizance as he is not a flight risk, is not a threat to the community, has no criminal record, is a father of a 2-year old U.S. Citizen daughter and is married to a U.S. Citizen under Texan common law.

In addition, Alexis qualifies for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. According to ICE’s June 17, 2011 “Morton Memo” and the August 23, 2013 “Facilitating Parental Interests in the Course of Civil Immigration Enforcement Activities,” Alexi is not a priority for deportation and needs to be released to his family on his own recognizance as a positive exercise of prosecutorial discretion.
