Free Venecia, Grandmother Survivor of Violence

UPDATE: Venecia is free!! Please sign and share the petition for another DV survivor & mother detained at Adelanto: Bit.ly/FreeIsabel

Grandmother Survivor of Domestic Violence has been Incarcerated for 3 years Suffering from Extensive Depression is now in the controversial Adelanto Detention Center!

A grandmother and domestic violence survivor, Venecia Duarte (A#079-725-205 ) had been detained in Yuba County Jail for 3 years. She recently was transferred to the GEO corporate owned Adelanto Detention Center.

Even though she passed her credible fear interview, which is the first step to fight an asylum case, she still remains behind bars.

SIGN THE PETITION AGAIN TO SEND A MESSAGE TO LOS ANGELES ICE FIELD DIRECTOR THAT WE WANT VENECIA IMMEDIATELY RELEASED.

As a 23 year long time resident of New York, Venecia has been a loving mother to her son, daughter and her two grandchildren. Her life has been devoted to caring for her family.

She has been the only person to look after her son who deals with mental health issues. Since Venecia‚Äôs separation from her family, her son has had severe breakdowns and has been hospitalized several times. The family is unable to visit her because she is currently detained in CA and her family is across the country in New York.

One of the reasons why ICE continues to detain her is due to a DUI charge from 2007. In this country, the concept of double jeopardy is that individuals don't get punished twice for the same offense. If Venecia paid her dues for the DUI, then why is she being denied the right to remain in this country where she has built a community and established roots?

Venecia is a valuable member to her community in New York and California. She cannot be left and forgotten inside a detention center. Her family in New York is waiting for her release.
